Cattle Grazing

oil on canvas, 12 x 20 inches |

PASTORAL
LANDSCAPES
Peaceful scenes which show people at work or at play are consistent themes
in Teater’s paintings. We often see mountain ponds as clear as glass…rolling
hills that disappear in gentle curves over the horizon…picturesque
farm houses and perfect gardens—where man lives in harmony with
nature. |

Cowgirl Portrait,
1941
oil on canvas, 24 x
18 inches

PORTRAITS
In the early 1940s
Teater started his Jackson Hole Art Gallery in Wyoming where visitors
from around the world commissioned him to paint their portraits. We know
that the earliest portrait by Archie Teater is a 1930 painting of one
of his sisters. |

Sawtooth Range, Idaho
oil on canvas, 30 x 50 inches |
|
IDAHO
LANDSCAPES
From the high desert near his home above the Snake River in Hagerman
Valley to mountain towns nestled below the alpine peaks of the Sawtooth
Mountains in central Idaho, the artist never failed to find either the
simple beauty of the land or the dramatic grandeur of nature. |

Still Life – Flowers
oil on canvas, 20 x 12 inches
|
|
FLOWERS
Whether painting in the outdoors with
natural light (plein air) or capturing a posed still-life, Teater’s
paintings convey the uniqueness of the moment—almost as if the
viewer can sense the presence of the artist as he freezes the moment
forever on his canvas. |

Domed Buildings, 1949
oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches |
|
THE
INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION
Teater and his wife Patricia shared
an unquenchable thirst for travel, often departing on extended trips
to the far reaches of the world. Archie’s “International
Collection” is like a road map that documents the many exotic
landscapes and street scenes of the 115 countries he and his wife toured. |

Fishing Boat, 1947
oil on canvas, 12 x 16 inches |
|
WATERFRONTS Harbors
with boats moored on quiet water and seascapes where the ocean is peaceful
were common scenes in Teater’s work. He painted waterfronts from
the coasts of New York and Maine, in addition to Monterey, California. |

September in the Grand Tetons
oil on canvas, 20 x 30 inches |
|
THE TETONS
Archie came to be known as “Teton Teater” because of his
lasting love of Wyoming’s Grand Teton Mountains and for the many
landscapes of this area that he painted throughout his career. |

Mining Site
on the River
oil on canvas, 20 xo 30 inches |
|
WESTERN SCENES
The cowboys remind us that the “Old West” was part of the
artist’s life. Many of Teater’s paintings recount his early
life of mining and trail blazing in the Idaho and Wyoming mountains. |

Central Park,
New York, 1943
oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches |
|
NEW
YORK CITYSCAPES
Teater attended the Art Students League in New York City in the mid 1930s,
in addition to brief stays from 1941 through 1945. His cityscape paintings
from this experience present the artist’s rather idyllic interpretation
of street scenes, primarily in Central Park and lower Manhattan. |
